Take a Breath (Break)

It is a winning combination whenever you take time to breathe through your day and bring yourself back to center.  So easy to be so focused on external pulls on your attention that you might not notice when you are a little off balance or maybe a lot.  The breath will get you back where you want to be.

Long, slow breaths.  Focus on each breath and bring the air all the way down.  You will smooth out your nervous system instantly.  You will drop out of your head for just the break that you need.  You will be reminded right away of who you really are.

Breath Breaks.  Take a few deep breaths when you begin your day even before you leave your bed.  The body and the mind will be so glad to respond to the regularity of getting set for the day rather than a much rougher response to a blaring alarm.  The not-so-nice sound is meant to say “get out of bed.”  Well, it works . . . on your nervous system.  Blah.  Blah.  Blah.  Blah.  How about some breath work for just two minutes?  The body will set itself at a nerve-friendly vibration, ready to go where you point it for the day.  The mind will say, “thank you” and “I’ve got this.”

Start a new habit of taking breath breaks during your work day.  In place of an unbroken spilling out of energy from the time you jump out of bed take little breaks.  Take a breath break to reset whenever you know you need one.  One minute.  Two minutes.  30 seconds even would do you good.  You can take long deep breaths when you go to the restroom.  Breathe slowly and evenly right after you are able to get away from a meeting.  Take a breath break just before you must be on a zoom call or in a phone meeting.  Leave your offce or work station with the habit of a few deeper, slower breaths.  Get in your car.  Breathe deliberately and slowly.  Have no thoughts of the next thing and the next thing that need doing.  Allow your breath to bring you present and put the work day behind you.
